OAMRT CMRTO Overview Serves the interests of MRTs in the Province of Ontario with strong emphasis on advocacy issues, continuing education and the advancement of the Profession. The CMRTO serves the public interest as the regulatory body with whom MRTs practising in Ontario are registered. Mission The OAMRT is the collective and influential voice of the Profession of Medical Radiation Technology dedicated to the support and promotion of the interests and needs of its Members. The mission of the CMRTO is to serve and protect the people of Ontario through self-regulation of the Profession. Background The OAMRT was incorporated in 1935. It was a major player in forming the CAMRT. Until the 1970s, it undertook all responsibilities for Medical Radiation Technology in Ontario including who was allowed to enter training programs.
At present the OAMRT serves as the authorative voice for the profession in Ontario. The OAMRT is Member driven. It is a non-profit organization governed by a Board of Directors, aided by an Executive Director, Office Staff, Committees and Section Executives. Directors serve as multi-task communica-tion links between the Membership and the Board.The CMRTO came into being under the Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA) and the Medical Radiation Technology Act (MRTA) on December 31, 1993.
The CMRTO is governed by a Council comprised of both elected members and public members (persons appointed by Cabinet).
The Registrar is accountable for managing the affairs of the CMRTO in conformity with the legislated mandate and in accordance with the policies determined by the Council and/or as directed by Council.Membership Membership with the OAMRT is voluntary. Several Membership categories are provided including those who are doing limited practice, are retired, are on work leave or work in the commercial field. MRTs in this province must be registered with the CMRTO in order to practise as an MRT in Ontario. Standards of Practice The OAMRT retired their Standards of Practice (SoP) when the College introduced theirs. Standards of Practice have been established for all three specialities (disciplines). These supercede all other Standards of Practice including the national (CAMRT) Standards of Practice. Code of Ethics The OAMRT has a Code of Ethics which is a requirement for professional recognition. The College also has a Code of Ethics at this time. Document last modified:
