Bill 179 has been passed and received Royal assent but is not yet in force as it needs to be signed into law by the Lieutenant Governor-in-Council. When it comes into force the Legislation requires that all MRTs have Personal Professional Liability Insurance (PLI). The OAMRT/CAMRT Membership provides this ( includes malpractice, CMRTO disciplinary hearings, criminal code defense coverage and costs for coroner's inquests). Non-OAMRT/CAMRT Members do not likely have PLI especially in the IHF (clinic) sector so joining us today will ensure you meet the incoming legal requirements for PLI. We are also aware hospital coverage may be limited or not there at all as hospitals look to cut costs on insurance premiums. OAMRT Membership provides an excellent personal PLI plan which is more comprehensive than most hospital coverages if not all hospitals.

If you are an MRT reading this; how are you promoting our Profession? As the national campaign states; MRTs are the very image of care. If there were suddenly no MRTs working for a month the Ontario health care system would collapse. No number of new nurses or doctors could help despite the emphasis by politicians on the need for doctors and nurses. MRTs are essential and in fact a vital profession in health care. The public should be aware of that and what MRTs do and MRTs should promote who you are - proudly and aggressively.
